First responders in Putnam County from the Mahopac and Mahopac Falls Fire Department and Carmel Police Department were dispatched to Dixon Lake at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28 in Mahopac, where there was a report of an overturned boat. Jack Casey, Mahopac Falls VFD public information officer, said that the responders had a full water rescue response from both departments, which helped “divert a possible tragedy.” The two boaters were rescued from the waters and treated by EMTs inside waiting …

An 8-year-old boy drowned after being underwater for some time when a boat carrying seven children and one adult flipped over in Haverstraw Bay. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, about 100 feet off of Haverstraw Bay, said Rockland County Sheriff's Chief William Barbera.
