Masked Gunmen Rob Passaic Bank
Two masked gunmen robbed a Passaic bank Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed. No one was injured in the robbery shortly after 1 p.m. at the PNC Bank branch at the corner of Broadway and Van Houten Avenue, they said. Students and staff at the nearby Thomas Jefferson School No. 1, Vincent Capuana School No. 15 and the School No. 15 annex were temporarily sheltered in place. The mastermind of an ATM skimming ring that targeted customers at banks in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts was sentenced Tuesday to five years in federal prison. Bogdan Rusu, 39, a Romanian national living in Howard Beach, Queens will serve the sentence handed down in U.S. District Court in Newark concurrently with a 65-month sentence given to him last June by a federal judge in Massachusetts. An Irvington woman who worked at a Union bank branch faces charges of identity theft and conspiracy for her part in a check scam that netted nearly $100,000, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said. Grace E. McCollin worked at a PNC Bank, where authorities say she obtained previously deposited checks and other bank documents, then passed them on to others involved in the scheme, according to the prosecutor.
