Khristina Sinche, 15, of Stratford, died Thursday, Jan. 8. She was a sophomore at Stratford High School, where she was a member of the girls' swim team.
Khristina fell ill while traveling with her family in Colombia to celebrate the New Year. Doctors found a brain tumor, but despite undergoing two surgeries, her condition worsened, according to a GoFundMe created for her family.

The fundraiser, organized by Jacqueline Leonard of Long Beach, was created to support her goddaughter, Anna, who has been diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy, or MLD — a rare, progressive disease that attacks the brain and nervous system.
