Police are investigating after human remains were found not far from a high school on Long Island. The discovery was made in Brentwood, near the interaction of Fifth Avenue and Bancroft Road, shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4. Suffolk County Police said someone called 911 about remains found in a sump. It was determined the remains were those of a human. A young girl has died after suffering sever injuries in a single-vehicle Long Island crash. The crash happened at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in Bohemia. A 51-year-old man from Brentwood was driving a 2012 Infiniti G37 westbound on Sunrise Highway (Route 27) with his 6-year-old daughter, Amaia Rivera, in the backseat. A Long Island man whose abuse and stalking of his former girlfriend culminated in a knifepoint kidnapping will spend decades behind bars. Holmark Garces, age 35, of Bay Shore, was sentenced to 27 to 30 years in prison in Suffolk County Court on Monday, Sept. 30. A Long Island man confessed to dumping hazardous waste at a former hospital, costing taxpayers and the property owner thousands of dollars. Carleton Pulley, age 48, of Bay Shore, pleaded guilty to endangering public health, safety or the environment in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Sept. 5.
