Dazzling Days-Long Display Underway As Jupiter, Mercury, Venus Align With Moon
The evening sky is about to put the finishing touch on a rare June display.
A slender crescent moon will join Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus in the western sky Tuesday, June 16, through Thursday, June 18, creating one of the month’s best skywatching moments.
The best viewing window will be about 30 to 60 minutes after sunset. In the Northeast, that means roughly between 8:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The moon will rise higher in the sky each night before finally moving above the planets on Thursday evening.

Twenty-eight horses and several barn cats are in temporary homes after severe storms ripped through By Chance Farm, leaving owner Michele Wellman scrambling to save the business she has spent more than two decades building.
The storm hit Sunday night, June 14, causing extensive damage at the farm in Libertytown.
"Last night, my worst nightmare happened," Wellman wrote on Facebook. "Either straight line winds or a possible tornado destroyed my barn."
